This project renovation of an apartment in Panama draws inspiration from contemporary Japandi aesthetics. The design employs a tone-on-tone palette, natural materials, and clean geometries, enhancing both the functionality and visual coherence of the open-plan layout.

This design study explores the renovation of an apartment located in a residential building with a predefined typology, aiming to modernize the space through targeted and discreet interventions. In line with the client’s request, the architectural approach focuses on preserving the existing layout while integrating elements of contemporary aesthetics and functionality. The overall design is guided by the principles of Japandi style, interpreted through a modern and contemporary lens.

The existing flooring, which mimics beige-toned marble, served as the starting point for the development of a cohesive color palette. Through the use of a tone-on-tone approach in earthy and warm beige hues, emphasis was placed on clean geometries and the formal articulation of the space’s individual elements. Wooden and marble surfaces are strategically introduced into the composition, offering material contrast and visual depth. These textures simultaneously function as subtle dividers, delineating different zones within the apartment’s open-plan layout, without disrupting the overall flow and spatial continuity.
