Gaea studio is a renovation of a ground-floor apartment that reinterprets traditional architecture through a contemporary lens. Through carefully considered architectural gestures, spatial gradations, and material choices, the design achieves a warm atmosphere and a subtle balance between heritage and modernity.

The design study aims to highlight the charm of traditional architecture, thoughtfully adapted to meet contemporary functional and aesthetic demands. Particular attention was given to the selection of materials and color palettes, resulting in a composition that balances past and present. In the living areas, the flooring was clad in stone tiles laid in a Byzantine pattern, serving as a historical reference to the local vernacular. In contrast, the sleeping areas feature travertine-like tiles, evoking a more monolithic and timeless character. Custom walnut wood storage units were integrated into the kitchen, living room, and bedroom, enhancing functionality with material warmth.

In the study area, beige Argolid marble slabs-originally part of the former kitchen countertop - were repurposed as shelving. Complementary design details, such as wall sconces, handles, and traditional breeze blocks, contribute to a rustic yet refined atmosphere. Spatial functions are defined by change in floor levels, while the breeze blocks act as permeable dividers - preserving spatial continuity without compromising the privacy of the sleeping area. A sense of balanced harmony fills the space: traditional yet modern, minimal yet inviting - a design composition that merges technical precision with atmospheric storytelling.
