Olea suites is a rental residential complex comprised of four residences on the hillside Koymaros, next to the seaside town of Githio in Eastern Mani, Lakonia. The proposal embraces the natural environment. The four residences are integrated into the naturally sloping site. The idea of slow living and connecting with nature runs througout the design approach from the materiality, the planted roofs to the landscape and reuse of existing olive trees.

The compositional principle of the proposal is the arrangement of the residences and the creation of typologies that ensure the independence of the occupants while also fostering a sense of community, reminiscent of a small village. Each unit is encapsulated within a clean volume, creating interior functional spaces that open up amphitheatrically towards the view, while the elevation difference between the units preserves privacy. The design features a central staircase leading to different levels and the entrances of each unit. This approach evokes the experience of walking through the narrow streets of the historic town of Gythio. The shared outdoor space harmonizes with the natural Mediterranean environment, incorporating natural materials, plantings of olive trees, herbs, aromatic plants, and wild grasses in the external landscaping and planted roofs.

The proposed materials blend the project into the region’s architecture. The facades are dominated by light ochre-colored plaster and natural wood frames, which, combined with the clean volumetric design, achieve simplicity in the composition. Additionally, the use of stone elements is noticeable, indicating the typology of the two smaller units. Each main entrance is emphasized by alternating materials between stone cladding and plaster.

The interior design blends minimalism with rustic and Mediterranean influences with a neutral color palette and the use of natural materials. Key elements include lime-wash paints, terracotta tiles, built-in furniture, linen fabrics, and wooden elements such as exposed beams and cabinetry. The use of natural materials and textures, clean lines, and a focus on functionality enhance the feeling of a traditional yet contemporary space. The design tells a story of simplicity, elegance, and harmony with nature. It subtly promotes a lifestyle centered around peace and comfort, suggesting that true luxury lies in tranquility and slow living.
