The renovation, restoration, and unification of two existing stone-built shells into a single residence achieves a balanced synthesis between the authenticity of traditional construction and the demands of contemporary living, shaping a space that is timeless, inviting, and functional.

The project involves the renovation, restoration, and unification of two existing stone-built shells, aiming to transform them into a single residence that meets the needs of a five-member family. A key objective was to preserve and make use of as many existing elements as possible, utilizing the resources already available in the buildings and the surrounding plot. Emphasis was placed on the maintenance and restoration of the stone masonry, as well as on the construction of a new roof using carefully restored and reused wooden beams.

The functional organization of the two volumes was based on their orientation and the fact that they lie on different axes, intersecting almost perpendicularly and form a "T" shape on the plot. This led to the spatial distinction between communal and private uses. The first building accommodates the living areas, due to its southeastern orientation, larger openings, and unobstructed views toward the Laconian Gulf. This volume also hosts the main entrance, leading into the living room and kitchen with a central island. The second building, being more introverted, houses the private and auxiliary spaces, including three bedrooms, a bathroom, and a laundry/storage room.

The architectural approach focused on creating a space that exudes simplicity and warmth, harmonizing elements of both cottage and country styles. The selection of materials and finishes played a decisive role in this direction: stone masonry on exterior and selected interior surfaces, stone-framed openings, exposed wood in various textures and finishes, woven elements, dark-toned metal details, white subway tiles for the kitchen backsplash and bathroom, as well as ceramic tiles in vintage patterns. The end result strikes a balance between preserving traditional construction techniques and integrating contemporary needs, offering a timeless and functional living environment.
